About
A small Brisbane practice teaching technical analysis through disciplined price action journaling.
Why we exist
Too many chart studies evaporate by the next open. DevOps Lab started because traders around Brisbane kept asking for help with reading structure — then arrived to sessions with no durable record of what they believed before the candle printed. We narrowed the work to technical analysis training that treats the journal as the craft.
The name nods to the laboratory feel of the desk: repeated observation, labelled samples, and quiet correction. It is not a software company. We teach people how to write what price is doing and what they decided to do about it.
Origin
The practice took shape in 2019 after years of private chart reviews in rented meeting rooms near the CBD. Cohort intensives followed once the journal framework held up under different markets — indices, FX pairs, and a handful of commodities. We still prefer small groups. Large rooms dilute the honesty required when a journal page is wrong.
How we work
Sessions stay concrete: levels on the chart, words on the page, and the gap between them. We mark language that is too soft (“looked bullish”), celebrate specific invalidation, and refuse to rewrite losers into moral victories. Traders who want tips for tomorrow’s open are pointed elsewhere.
People
Mara Ellison
Lead instructor. Former prop-desk analyst who shifted into teaching after discovering most coaching clients lacked a usable session record. Designs the intensive curriculum and marks journal submissions.
Tom Nguyen
Session facilitator for weekly chart reviews. Focuses on pacing, peer critique norms, and helping quieter traders speak precisely about their levels without performing confidence.
Values we actually practise
- Specificity over swagger — a dull, accurate journal beats a dramatic one.
- Review without theatre — losses are material for correction, not confessionals.
- Australian context — session times respect AEST/AEDT opens; Brisbane desk days remain optional, never mandatory theatre.
If that approach fits, browse sessions or write to us.
